Why I’m Running
“I am running for re-election to continue to serve you and be a voice and vote for quality of life that supports Chesterfield as a First Choice Community. I will continue to be a reliable servant leader that listens, have discussions and be available to address citizens’ concerns.”
Main Focuses
Jim will continue to be an advocate for investing in Public Safety, prioritizing students and teachers in the Classroom, work to keep Tax Rate at a minimum, making Transparent Land Use decisions and combating the Opioid and Mental Health Crisis.
Public Safety
Safety will always remain a top priority because quality of life is dependent upon safety in our community. Our public safety men and women put their lives on the line daily. It takes the necessary resources to enable them to serve efficiently and effectively. I will continue to ensure Public Safety will have those resources needed to properly recruit, retain, equip and train our Public Safety Personnel, to ensure they can accomplish the mission to provide life safety for the Citizens of Chesterfield County.
Schools
I believe in fiscal responsibility in all areas including the school system. I will continue working with the Chesterfield County School Board to advocate for the most efficient use of County tax dollars while being mindful to meet the needs of the students. I will continue to prioritize our students in the classroom, as I have done and will continue to advocate for proper discipline in schools to ensure the best learning environment will be a priority. A child having the opportunity to obtain a solid education is essential to our future.
I will also continue to ensure that our county has competitive pay for our teachers and funding for the needed resources in the classroom. Teachers are not only teaching but are mentors that have lasting impacts on children, that is why it is important to recognize teachers are consequential to our student’s excellent education and have considerable influence in their lives.
Taxes
Taxes are necessary in order to maintain a level of safety, education and services the county provides and residents expect in return for their investment in the county they choose to live, work, play and raise their family. Recognizing the burden that taxes place on our citizens, I will continue to work to keep tax rates to a minimum while balancing expectations of citizens and needs of the county to ensure Chesterfield remains a First Choice Community.
Responsible and Transparent Land Use
Although positive strides have been taken with transparency, there are still opportunities to increase communication with citizens, as well as, simplifying finding information about zoning cases. Citizens input on how to enhance communication has been valuable. I am supporting policy changes for additional measures for Transparent Land Use.
Opioids and Mental Health Crisis
Opioids and Mental Health in our community is heartbreaking and I want to ensure continued support for county agencies that are on the front-line battling America’s Opioid and Mental Health Crisis. It is imperative that Social Services, Mental Health Services, the Community Services Board, Law Enforcement and the Special Mobile Integrated Health Unit we have in the Fire Department, work together to support those struggling with these issues in Chesterfield County.
